Reflecting on 2023, God is clearly working on behalf of orphaned and vulnerable children around the world. This year brought wonderful news of teams returning overseas in support of the most vulnerable. One of our partners, Seeds of Hope, successfully held their mobility and vision clinic for the first time since the pandemic. An eight-year-old boy received his very first wheelchair. Since he can now move around independently, he can attend school, which was not possible for him before. Over 3,500 pairs of glasses were given away and hundreds received wheelchair repair and refitting during that clinic.

Because of consecutive poor rainy seasons that have negatively impacted crop production, millions of Kenyans are experiencing food insecurity. At the same time, the government stopped the maize subsidy program. Some households are forced to sell possessions in order to pay for food and other essentials. MCF held a food relief effort recently where thousands of families came from miles around and waited in queues in hopes of obtaining food.

The quote, "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care," struck a chord with me recently. The ability to collaborate from anywhere in the world has enabled us to work towards our mission of caring for vulnerable children and their communities. In our 16+ year history, we’ve learned a lot about directing resources effectively. By doing so, we have seen communities achieve better outcomes in times of crisis.
