Emily lives with her parents and three siblings. Her father drives a tuk-tuk, a small three-wheeled taxi. Emily is independent and outspoken, often stepping naturally into a leadership role among her classmates. Her favorite subject is Kaqchikel, the Mayan language spoken in her community, where she loves learning new letters and sounds. She loves hamburgers and playing with dolls. She dreams of becoming a teacher.
